There are other Arkansas nature experiences, but this one is probably a little different. The trails we’ll follow are deer trails and logging roads. The drive to get here is gorgeous. And the biodiversity here at Wild Ozark is incredible.
Our 160 acres is far off of the beaten path six miles from pavement. We’re in the same area as Kings River Falls and Ponca, and the Wilderness Riders are a few miles down the dirt road. There’s local lodging with multiple home-away rentals.
Beginning July 1, 2025, I’ll start hosting Arkansas Nature Experiences again here at Wild Ozark: Plant Walks, Nature Journaling, Slow Dirt Road Drives, and a combination of all three.
My History with Plants and Herbalism
Identifying the wild plants and trees has been a passion of mine since the early 1990’s.
I started out learning the medicinal plants in south Louisiana in the early 90’s. In the late 90’s, I became certified in Herbalism by apprenticing to a Master Herbalist. However, with all of the liabilities involved in being an herbalist, I never pursued the herbalist tradition as a vocation.
Instead, I quietly practiced at home with my family and continued to add to my files of identified plants. With that said, I don’t know all of the plants. I know certain plants, and I know enough about the clues I can use to identify other plants. So, on my plant walks, I’ll share what I know and how to go about figuring out the clues.

Balancing Passions
Since 2018, I’ve focused mostly on the Wild Ozark pigments and my art. And then in 2024 I added real estate to the task list. But I never quit checking on the plants. Are the orchids blooming yet? Is the ginseng up? Or sometimes it’s just a matter of saying hello my favorites that return each year.
While I do always stop for mushrooms on our Arkansas Nature Experiences, I won’t be attempting to identify whether any of them are edible. I’ll just admire them with you.

My love for the native plants is as strong as ever. Now I’m finally ready to combine both the love of plants and my love for art. And if you’re ever one of my clients on the real estate side, I’m always happy to do plant walks on your property of interest. We can look for certain habitats, or just identify plants in general.
Just a Plant Walk … or a Nature Journaling Experience
If you aren’t into sketching or journaling, then the plant walks alone are an option. Any day except Mondays and Fridays are open for a booking. Group size max is 5.
And if you’d rather just book a private Nature Experience, that’s an option, too.
How to Book a Plant Walk?
Head over to my shop and pick out which experience you’d like. Before you pay for it, email me to coordinate a date unless you’re open to any. Eventually I’ll get one of those booking apps to make this easier.
Here’s where you can sign up for the Nature Experience of your choice:

Herb Walks (Hiking and Dirt Road Slow-tours)
Our area is a biodiversity paradise. Come take a hike or drive-tour with me. Take an hour and join me:
- guided herb-walk on our property
- a slow dirt road drive where we’ll stop and get out at plants or features of interest.
- Pigment rock foraging
Both the herb walk and the dirt road tour have options to nature journal while we’re at it.

Madison Woods is the pen-name for my creative works. I’m a self-taught artist who moved to the Ozarks from south Louisiana in 2005. My paintings of Ozark-inspired scenes feature lightfast pigments from Madison county, Arkansas. My inspiration is nature – the beauty, and the inherent cycle of life and death, destruction, regeneration, and transformation.
