As usual, I’ve been really busy lately. I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the month and I haven’t even made a post here in almost 2 weeks. I did get one started, but have submitted a pitch to publish it with another publication, so I put it on draft until I hear back from them. Or if I don’t hear back by next week, it’ll go into my newsletter instead.

So when I sat down to write today’s post, I thought I’d look back through the years of my blog and see what was happening on this day back then. While I’ve been building websites and blogging since before the year 2000, this particular iteration of my blogging life has only been around since 2014.

Did you know I used to write fiction?

I still like writing, but I haven’t had the time to devote to it any more. One day I’d like to get back to this. This is the post from this day in 2015 (and the list is still live if you want to sign up just in case I do get back to my fiction):

Oh, I wish the weather were the same now

In 2016 on this day I was going on about how nice the weather was and noticing fall in the air. On this day currently, it is drought and heat wave conditions and I am so so looking forward to the autumn weather.

Getting my own art printer

It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since I got my printer. I use it sporadically, and less often now that I’m not doing markets as much as I used to. But it still operates wonderfully and I still love it.

Currently…

Until last week I’d been working on insulating the walls in my studio during the early mornings. Last week I started helping my husband work on his deer blind because he got to the point where he couldn’t continue without some extra hands.

This morning we got the last of the walls put up, so he can go forward again on his own now. And I will return to finishing the insulation in my studio until I need his help for the ceiling.

I’m so ready for the heat to slack off. Once the sun comes over the mountain to the east everything heats up entirely too hot to be outside.

I’ve got some garden projects to work on, too. But I can’t do both at the same time (if only there was a way to clone myself, lol). If it weren’t so hot it wouldn’t be so exhausting to do work outdoors and I could work on the studio in the mornings and garden in the evening. But the heat makes me more tired and unwilling to lift a finger towards evening projects.

In the summer of 2018 I began making watercolor paints from the rocks, clay, and other resources of our land here in the Ozarks. In 2023 I began experimenting with the same pigments in oils. I call them Wild Ozark Paleo Paints, because they’re made in a way very close to the same way paints were made when man (or woman) first put a hand-print on the wall of a cave. I use very small amounts of outsourced pigment for blue, white, and sometimes yellow to offer a greater range of hues built upon the earthy local pigments. My specialty is painting nature, specifically the nature that surrounds me here in the remote hills of northwest Arkansas.
