I bought what I hoped would be a warm hat while on a recent trip. During this past week’s arctic blast and snowmageddon, I got to put that hat to the test. It passed with flying colors.
First the scenic photos. I saw an eagle at the Kings River bridge this morning on my way out to work. Unfortunately, my phone camera doesn’t zoom enough to get a clear photo of it.

Feeding the horses
Just after daylight I went out to feed the horses this morning before heading off to work. The sun doesn’t get over that hill for another hour. So even though it’s after sunrise, it still looks like pre-dawn in our valley.

There’s still most of our snow on the ground but it’s frozen into hard-pack now and hard to walk on because the horses have put a lot of tracks in it. In the places where it’s compressed or melted and then refrozen, it’s pretty slippery. So that’s where the ice cleats are butt-savers. I spend my time upright instead of on the ground if I remember to put these on:

Warm Hat but Funny-Looking

So, it’s pretty funny looking on me, but I don’t care. This hat will be my go-to for very cold weather from now on. And when it’s really cold, I look a lot funnier when the scarf is added:

It’s a raccoon trim canopy hat by hat-maker, Susy Mullaney of Taos. She used vintage fur coats to make hats. I found it at a shop while we were in Albuquerque not too long ago. The scarf is one my husband bought while he was working on a base in Afghanistan, and while it’s thin, it’s also very warm.

There are some similar but not with patterns {ad} at Amazon, if you’re interested in the scarf. I really love mine.

I’m a nature-lover, real estate agent & artist. Sometimes, I also write things. I began using local pigments to paint scenes from nature in the Ozarks in 2018.
If you’re interested in buying or selling in rural northwest AR, get in touch with me by phone, text, or email. I’m happy to help! I have a separate website for my real estate blogging and information at WildOzarkLand.com.
All of my artwork is available in prints, and where originals are available, they are for sale. You can find all of that over at shop.WildOzark.com.
Call me “Roxann” or “Madison”, either one works.
For pretty much everything online, I go by Madison Woods, a pen name I adopted when I first began writing and then later with my art. For real estate, I use my real name, Roxann Riedel. And for my fiction, there’s yet another pen name: Ima Erthwitch.
