Last night (Thursday) while sitting on our balcony looking at stars, I saw the biggest, most brilliant fireball meteor that I’ve ever seen. It was spectacular and I wished I would have had my video ready to capture it.

Of course, that sort of thing doesn’t last very long. But I sure enjoyed seeing it.

Aurora Skies

The night before (Wednesday), we rode down to the bridge at Felkins creek to see if we could get a better view for the second night of aurora borealis. On Tuesday night many in our area got a really nice show of northern lights. We missed them that night.

Wednesday night while we were at the creek waiting, they never got brilliant for us, not even enough light to capture it on my camera. But a few hours later I was able to see it a little better.

But we did get to see more shooting stars. I think this weekend the Leonid meteor shower peaks, so maybe we’ll get to see yet more of them. I still wish on them when I see one, and I’ve got plenty more wishes to make, lol.

The Pleiades Cluster

Surprisingly, I managed to get a photo of the Pleiades with my phone camera. I really didn’t think it would show the 7 bright stars as separate entities, but it did. There’s a lot of other stars but those are the ones I can count out with my unassisted eyes.

Beauty of a Beech

There is a beech tree down our road and every year I admire her colors. She doesn’t begin to show off until all of the other trees are almost done. Once the change begins, it’s almost as fast as the meteor was as it burned across the sky last night. But at least there’s a week or so to admire this beauty.

When the leaves turn lime green, it won’t be long before they’re golden yellow, and finally brown.
