Artist Statement | Welcome to Wild Ozark

Thank you for dropping by my website. I hope you enjoy your stay! Are you an artist, or patron, nature-lover? Maybe an old friend, or lucky happenstance lander-on-the page? Today I’ve been updating some parts of my site. One of those parts is this graphical representation of my artist statement:

Image for Wild Ozark's website front page.

When I use this for entering shows or exhibitions, I just use the text, not the whole graphic. I just included the image here so that you can see one way in which it can work for marketing yourself as an artist.

Welcome!

This post might serve as the first contact many of us will make with each other. So let me introduce myself (You can find more at that link, also, see my artist statement, lol). I’m an artist who makes her paints from the resources right outside my back door. And, I like to write. My blog wasn’t always focused on my art, though. In the beginning, it was hand-coded musings about the medicinal herbs I was learning about, my fiction writing, nature photography, philosophical musings, and in general, about my life as I geared up to move to the Ozarks. I’d like to begin bringing more of the writing back to my life and my blog.

Likewise, I’d love to know more about you. Leave a comment to tell me about yourself. For example, what do you love to do in your spare time? What is your day job, and hobby, or is your work the thing you love to do most? What part of the world do you call home? If you’re a long-time friend and follower of this blog, leave a comment to introduce yourself to the others, and any newcomers who might drop by. Also, if you have a website, be sure to leave your link!

What’s an Artist Statement?

An artist statement is a short passage that explains the artist and their work. It’s a thing artists need to have on hand when entering some juried shows. Ordinarily, they’re in text format. As such, they’re supposed to give a quick artistic bio of sorts, to tell the juror and art patrons what I do and why. Anyway, that’s my understanding of it. Mine is in graphical format so it’s easy use on my websites and social media. However, it’s also a thing I’m never completely satisfied with. So, it evolves. I’ll update it from time to time, too. But here it is for now.

    Hi Madison,
I’m a long time follower of your blog. I live in your area and have attended one of your ginseng workshops. I ADORE your art!!! I work as a chemistry tutor and as a writer. I’m trying to develop a work-from-home life like yourself.

Hi Pamela! Thank you also for joining in with the intro’s! Oh, I bet as a chemistry know-er, you would find the making of paints from rocks and plants very interesting. I spent most of my adult life in chemistry labs, and never wished I had instruments more than I do nowadays when I don’t have the lab, LOL! I’m so grateful for long-time followers like you and Janet who have stayed with me across the many iterations I’ve journeyed through. Don’t you have a website too? What kind of work-from-home business are you trying to develop? Mine isn’t supporting us, yet, but at least it is finally beginning to support itself. That feels like a tremendous milestone after years of pushing and prodding it along. Have a happy Tuesday night!

I’ve been around for some time, but now live in Arizona rather than Illinois. So I’m photographing a completely different sort of place. I’ve been hanging around you since you were hosting “Friday Fictioneers” and I was writing there then. I have a website: https://sustainabilitea.wordpress.com/ and am always happy to have visitors.

    Happy Tuesday, Madison!

Hi Janet! Thanks for stepping forward with introductions 😀 I sometimes miss the Fictoneers days, but can’t even imagine how I would have time for it now. What strikes me funny about that is that I don’t work away from home now, and worked full-time back then. loved your photos in Illinois, but I am really enjoying them nowadays. I have a lot of love for the imagery out west. It’s so nice to have old blogger friends, and even nicer that we’ve actually gotten to meet each other in real life too. Happy Tuesday!
