This bobwhite quail painting features pigments I collected by hand in the Ozarks of northwest Arkansas. After grinding the rocks to create a pigment, I process it with a binder to make my handmade watercolors. The colors in this painting are all light-fast. My paints are called “Paleo Paints” because I make them in the nearly the same way they were made when cave men (or women!) were painting on the walls 😀
Photographer’s credit: I used a reference pic by Jami Linder, with permission.
To View “A Curious Pair” in Real Life
I’ll be happy to make an appointment to bring it out anywhere in northwest Arkansas. Just email me at [email protected] Keep an eye on my Exhibits page to see if it’s on display anywhere close to you.
Format
Unframed: Ships flat. Frame not included. FREE shipping to US addresses. Mat included (see above in framed image).
Framed: The painting is currently framed, as shown above. Available to be picked up in person, or with a waiver, because the glazing is ordinary glass. Mat is acid free. I’m not sure how well it will ship that way. I plan to reframe this one later using TruVue acrylic and a better frame. The price will go up accordingly at that time. If you purchase it unframed, the mat with my description on it will be included at no extra charge.

Collectible Earthy Paintings
My watercolor works always feature handmade watercolors. By using only my Wild Ozark Paleo Paints, my palette is limited to the colors of nature. My paintings will always be earthy and natural. No matter what the subject or style, you will instantly recognize it as my work.
This painting is part of my North American Game Bird project.
North American Game Birds
“A Curious Pair” is the first in a series of north American game birds. I’ll do a few more of the quail and then move on to other favorite game birds, like wild Turkeys, Woodcock, Pheasants, and Dove.
