All of my earthy artwork begins with foraging for rocks. Then I crush the rocks and use the powders to make my paints. The colors in the prints are as close to the colors in the original paintings as you can possibly get. So what you see in your prints are authentically Ozark colors.

If you’re not happy, for any reason at all, I’ll refund you. No questions asked.

This has been the most exciting discovery of my artistic life. In 2018 I took a little dust from a broken rock on the driveway and rubbed it on a sheet of paper. When I saw the color it produced, I started researching how to make paint. So, the first thing I do is find the pigment source. Most of the times, it comes from a rock that I’ve found here on our land at Wild Ozark. My husband and I live on 160 acres of wild land in a valley deep in the Ozark mountains. We have a LOT of rocks, lol. Not something most gardeners appreciate – BUT – fortunately for me as an artist, many of these rocks are full of iron oxide compounds that give those rocks color.

You may be asking, how does she make the paints?

Most of the hard work is in the smashing. I break the rocks down to powders, and then that’s what I use to make my paints. Sometimes I find old, weathered bones or shed antlers, and I gather those, too. Those bones and antlers make a nice black if I char them in the woodstove first.
