All for a Rock

The lengths I’ll go to for a rock. Almost got wet in the creek trying to get this rock, but it looks like it’ll be worth the effort when it’s time to make some paint!

Sometimes I get into a tight spot when I’m trying to get photos or get a rock.

The lengths I'll go to for a rock. Almost got wet in the creek trying to get it.

Yesterday I saw a really nice red rock on the other side of the creek. The distance from the rock I was standing on to the rock on the other side looked short enough to stand with one foot on each side.

And it was. BUT. Once I had the other foot on the other side and had picked up the rock… with my phone in one hand to video and the rock in the other, my balance wasn’t right to get myself back altogether on the side of the creek I needed to be on.

Something had to give. So I tossed the rock back to the destination side. And then I had the free hand I needed to feel more balanced.

It was funny, not risky except for wet feet, unless I fell and hit the rocks.

For Making Paint

Sometimes I find fossils, but this particular rock will go to my paint-making pile of rocks by the house. It looks like it’ll make a nice red.

At the moment, I don’t need it. But rocks like that are never there when I need them, so I have a spot by the house where I stash them as I find them.

I used to bring them inside. But that became obviously impractical after a while.
