A red-shouldered hawk at the liminal stage in between flight and rest, in Ozark pigments, handmade watercolors by Madison Woods. All colors in the original are derived from hand-foraged and processed Ozark pigments. Prints are duplicated to precision so that the colors you see are indeed the colors of the Ozarks.
Collectible Earthy Paintings
My watercolor works always feature handmade watercolors. By using only my Wild Ozark Paleo Paints, my palette is limited to the colors of nature. My paintings will always be earthy and natural. No matter what the subject or style, you will instantly recognize it as my work.
This painting is part of the Birds of Prey project. You can see the other raptor paintings that I’ve done so far by visiting the page for the project:
Ozark Birds of Prey
Although I’m focused specifically on painting the raptors that visit, live in, or travel through the Ozarks, most of these species are familiar sights throughout North America.
This red-shouldered hawk print is one of possibly two or three in an ongoing series of red-shouldered hawks.
Original is not available.

My wife & I recently bought a home in the Blue Ridge Mountain area and we have Red Shouldered Hawks as neighbors. ‘On the Cusp’, a gorgeous watercolor print of this hawk, is an outstanding work of art. The composition and the capture of action is outstanding, and the depth of field of the bird’s wings is almost 3D in appearance. We have other very nice eagle pictures in the house, and they looked inferior to this print the moment we hung it on the wall. Madison is very customer oriented and has communicated with us throughout the process, by email, to ensure that we were very satisfied with our purchase and experience. We are now looking for another wall to hang another hawk picture of hers. I highly recommend her artwork to anyone looking for a rustic natural themed work of art for their home.
