Running my bathwater, preparing to relax my tired body after a day of weed-eating. Trying to not think ahead to the several more days of weed-eating on my list of things to do. But… no relaxing bath for me.
At first, I thought I was imagining things as the stream of water spilling into the tub got smaller and smaller. But there was no denying the problem when it just stopped altogether.
Ah, the joys of living rural and on gravity feed spring water.
DIY Life
Out here, you don’t just call a plumber. Roto-Rooter doesn’t do housecalls six miles away from pavement and 50 miles away from a big town. And they certainly won’t hike up a mountain to see what happened to cause the outage.
You roll up your sleeves and get ready to do the work for yourself.
Fortunately, I still have jugs of water stored for winter water woes. Toilets can still flush if you have jugs of water.
But bathtubs don’t fill.
No relaxing bath, To-Do List rearranged
So, I got out of the barely filled tub, dried off, and went to bed with tomorrow’s agenda already laid out with my husband who also has suddenly had his next day’s schedule re-scheduled.
To-do lists get bumped with priority matters jump to the top. Water is definitely priority.
Today we will hike up the mountain to see where the water stopped. Did a coupler or a line fail? Or did the bear chew through the feed line again? Worst possible scenario is a problem with the spring itself, but that has never happened before. All other possibilities are manageable.
And if the worst case scenario turns out to be the problem, there are other springs to capture. That’s just another huge rearrangement of the to-do list, if so.
Now it’s morning after
In the meantime, no relaxing bath for me. If it weren’t so unusually cold outside this morning, it would be time to roll up my sleeves and gather the tools. It was 35*F this second morning of May. So it’s put on the jacket and gather the tools time instead.

The newsletter is monthly. My blog is sporadic, so if you want the posts to go to your inbox, put your email address below. Blog posts and newsletters aren’t always the same (very rarely are the same), so it won’t hurt to subscribe to both 🙂
I’m a nature-lover, real estate agent & artist. Sometimes, I also write things. I began using local pigments to paint scenes from nature in the Ozarks in 2018.
All of my artwork is available in prints, and where originals are available, they are for sale. You can find all of that over at shop.WildOzark.com.
If you’re interested in buying or selling in rural northwest AR, get in touch with me by phone, text, or email. I’m happy to help! I have a separate website for my real estate blogging and information at WildOzarkLand.com.
Call me “Roxann” or “Madison”, either one works.
