Garter Snakes in my Garden

There are some garter snakes living among the rocks in my garden. I made a short video of doing nothing really, just visiting with the snakes. They watched me while I watched them. And that’s about it.

Wild Ozark Garden Citizens

My garden has many citizens. Lots of snakes of various types love those rock walls and cardboard ground cover. This is the first time I’ve seen garter snakes in the garden, though. So far I’ve seen timber rattler, copperhead, king snakes, hognose snake, and black rat snakes, ring-neck snakes.

Lizards, skinks, toads, frogs love it there, too. Sometimes I’ll see a salamander in the moist, shady spots.

One of the fence lizards on a garden rock. I made a painting featuring a fence lizard last year.

Sometimes the armadillos come in under the fence and wreak havoc, and I have to keep an eye on the groundhog that likes to sneak in over the low point in my fence. There was a chipmunk under the stone steps, but I’m afraid one of the larger snakes might’ve gotten it.

I’ll post more to this series as I get a chance. Too often, I don’t have my phone with me when I see them, so our visit goes undocumented.

I’m a nature-lover, real estate agent & artist. Sometimes, I also write things. I began using local pigments to paint scenes from nature in the Ozarks in 2018.

If you’re interested in buying or selling in rural northwest AR, get in touch with me by phone, text, or email. I’m happy to help! I have a separate website for my real estate blogging and information at WildOzarkLand.com.

All of my artwork is available in prints, and where originals are available, they are for sale. You can find all of that over at shop.WildOzark.com.

Call me “Roxann” or “Madison”, either one works.

For pretty much everything online, I go by Madison Woods, a pen name I adopted when I first began writing and then later with my art. For real estate, I use my real name, Roxann Riedel. And for my fiction, there’s yet another pen name: Ima Erthwitch.
