Cold, Rainy, Dreary Day

My day today started when Rob’s alarm went off at 0430, long before daylight. We rolled out of bed, dressed and then I made breakfast. At 0530 we bundled up and I dropped him off at his deer blind on a cold, rainy, dreary day.

He had hoped once the rain stopped and the clouds parted that the deer would come out. That didn’t happen. The clouds didn’t part, either. It remained cold and dreary the entire day although it did stop raining at some point.

Yogurt for Breakfast

After bringing him up the mountain on the other side of the creek I came back into the warm house and stoked the fire. I ate yogurt for breakfast as I usually do every morning. While I love bacon, eggs, and toast too, the salt makes my ankles swell and I gain a pound every day that I eat that scrumptious morning meal. Even if I skip the bacon. So I just don’t eat that except on treat days. I’m hungry again by noon if I eat that, too, so it’s another good reason to stick to the yogurt.

Task List

With breakfast tucked away I turned on the computer and worked on composing my newsletter issue that will go out on the last day of November.

Next task, laundry. Put some clothes washing, folded clothes I washed yesterday. Stoked the fire again.

Once it was daylight I went out to move the horses back into the paddock by the house and feed them and the chickens. It was still a cold, rainy, dreary day. A vine was hanging onto the electric fence, so I cut that. And I noticed that I’d forgotten to buy chicken food yesterday while in town, so I went to the shop to get the old bag of hen scratch I’d given to Rob to feed squirrels. The chickens don’t really like it, but they’ll like it better than nothing until I can get to the feed store.

While working at checking off items on my to-do list, I listened to an audio book. The book I’m listening to is book 3 of Nora Robert’s Seven Rings: https://amzn.to/3KmwSmT (that’s an affiliate link, which means if you buy the book I’ll get a small commission, but it doesn’t affect the price).

No Multi-tasking

But I can’t listen to the book while I’m doing some things, so I turned it off to try printing one of the magnet sheets that came by mail delivery the other day. I made a graphic with a QR code to put on my car that leads to my ‘about’ page for real estate.

I don’t know if anyone will scan it to find out more, but it’s an inexpensive marketing trick to try. I have a t-shirt that should come in on Tuesday with this on the back and my business logo on the front. I’m curious to see if that turns out well.

Now I’m curious if something like this would also compel people to go read about my art, so maybe I’ll make another magnet sheet with an art ad and so some split testing with my car. Ha, of course, this means I’ll have to wash my car because it’s doubtful the magnet will even stick to it right now. And then I wonder if it’s just going to fly off as I’m heading down the road because it’s a thin little sheet for home printing.

And, it definitely won’t hold up to driving around on a rainy, dreary day.

Time to Roost

Well, now the day is drawing to a close. It’s only 1730 but it’s getting dark, so that’s the end of the day for me. Like a chicken going to roost, I’m done when it’s dark, lol. Tomorrow’s to-do list includes processing the deer Rob got a few days ago. It’s in the cooler now in quarters. Rob will cut it into sizes we can use and I’ll vacuum seal it and put it in the freezer. Every deer in the freezer means that much less meat bought at the store. Whereas I could live fine without any meat (but I’d keep eggs and seafood!), Rob apparently cannot. So deer it is.

I’m a nature-lover, real estate agent & artist. Sometimes, I also write things. I began using local pigments to paint scenes from nature in the Ozarks in 2018.

If you’re interested in buying or selling in rural northwest AR, get in touch with me by phone, text, or email. I’m happy to help! I have a separate website for my real estate blogging and information at WildOzarkLand.com.

All of my artwork is available in prints, and where originals are available, they are for sale. You can find all of that over at shop.WildOzark.com.

Call me “Roxann” or “Madison”, either one works.

For pretty much everything online, I go by Madison Woods, a pen name I adopted when I first began writing and then later with my art. For real estate, I use my real name, Roxann Riedel. And for my fiction, there’s yet another pen name: Ima Erthwitch.
