Last week I received an inquiry by email to ask if I’d be interested in reviewing MRE products. Of course I would, I replied. Preparedness goes hand in hand with our lifestyle out here at Wild Ozark.
The case of MRE’s arrived a few days later, and I enlisted Rob to try a variety while I tried a different one. I’ve never eaten an MRE before, but Rob with his 20 years of service in the Air Force has eaten many. He’d be the perfect test subject.
Note: This product was supplied to me at no cost in exchange for an honest review.
Meals Ready to Eat (MRE’s for short)
Each package inside the case provides more than enough calories for a full day (and more) for me. So if we were in a true survival situation, I could spread one package out to make it last through breakfast, lunch, and supper.
A case contains 12 packages, 2 of each different entree. This case included:
- Jambalaya
- Lentil Stew & Potatoes
- Southwest Chicken
- Pasta Marinara
- Beef Stew
- Chicken & Rice
The MRE’s from Prepared Bee that I chose to review contains meat proteins, but other options are available.
Pasta Marinara & Southwest Chicken
Since I didn’t know what to expect in a food like this, I went with what for me seemed like a safe option: Pasta Marinara. Rob chose the Southwest Chicken.
I needn’t have worried! The flavor was excellent. It would definitely not be ‘suffering’ to need to rely on this during a time of need. Rob said his was tasty, too.
And although condiments like salt and pepper are included separately in each package, I didn’t need to add either to my meal.
Side dishes in mine included cheese spread, crackers, roasted corn, and a giant cookie. Oh, and a little roll of Smarties candy (my favorite). Rob’s had the same sides except instead of cheese spread he had peanut butter.
Also included in each were a packet of instant coffee, sugar & creamer, an electrolyte/energy drink mix, wet wipe napkin, and a toothpick.
As I get a chance to taste the other varieties, I’ll update my post here to tell you about them!
5-Star Satisfaction Rating
Mine, from a newbie perspective and being pleasantly surprised at the good taste and variety of textures and flavors. Rob’s from the perspective of a military veteran with lots of past MRE’s to judge against.
See it on YouTube
We decided to try our MRE’s after a day of cutting and pulling trees, so don’t expect to see me looking all like an influencer. We were tired, dirty, and didn’t have time to make supper. So I especially appreciated the MRE’s from Prepared Bee. I recorded it all on video and uploaded it to my channel:
