Description

Simpler Times

This picturesque old Ford tractor once belonged to my grandfather, from a bygone era of what we romantically might think were simpler times. It was the workhorse of his homestead down in south Louisiana. Compared to the much more complicated John Deer we own now, it is fair to say this antique 8N is definitely a simpler machine to work on. For the most part, anyway, and at least I hope. Restoring it will be my passion project for next year.

A Photogenic Old Ford Tractor

I’ve taken a lot of photographs of it over the years in various seasonal settings. You can see them all, and the progression photos of this painting in progress here: Painting the Old Ford 8N Tractor.

Hand-Foraged Pigments, Handmade Watercolor Paints

In the original painting, all of the pigments I used are light-fast earth pigments. The darkest black is made from charred bone and is also light fast. When I make prints, I use archival, textured watercolor paper. The inks in my professional art printer are also archival. The value of prints purchased directly from me, as opposed to third party printers, is that I can make sure the colors are reflecting the pigments I used to create the original, as closely as possible.

For more information on the various pigments I use in my paintings, visit this page. We are blessed with an abundance of sandstone in various hues. These make up the bulk of my pigment sources, and most of them come from Felkins creek. Many are also gathered at our own little branch that spills into Felkins and from the rocky shores of King’s river downstream from where Felkins joins the river.

Finish

The painting is framed in distressed wood currently, but the price listed here is not including the frame. The frame will be included free of charge if the buyer pays shipping or picks it up.

I will ship anywhere, but there is additional postage to ship framed anywhere, or unframed to any location outside the US. Refunds or guarantees for artwork shipped internationally do not include postage for framed work. Domestic shipments will be insured and signature required. If this painting is purchased in person at a show or private review, the frame is included at no extra charge.

Prints

All of my prints are processed in house with a professional giclée art printer using archival inks. The paper is archival watercolor paper for high quality prints.

More Info

All of my paintings begin with foraging for rocks, bones, clay, or other pigment sources. If you’d like to read a little more about my life of foraging for rocks, read this post: She Delivers in Spades.
