The Ghost Orchid, Dendrophylax lindenii, is the rarest north American orchid. This orchid grows only in the western tip of Cuba, the West Indies, and the southwestern tip of Florida. An epiphytic orchid that grows on trees but depends upon moisture in the air. This orchid has no leaves, and blooms on an unpredictable, irregular schedule. Environmental changes are threatening these orchids.
These orchids were drawn to illustrate my article in North American Native Plant Society’s ‘Blazing Star’ newsletter. The original drawings are available. Please contact me for details at madison@wildozark.com.
